Substance Use and Addiction Education Symposium
From UBC Health
In recognition of the importance of substance use education and training at the pre-licensure level and beyond, UBC Health has partnered with the BC Centre on Substacnce Use to strengthen collaborative health education, training, and research opportunities related to substance use and addiction across disciplines. Given the prevalence of substance use disorders, it is important that all healthcare providers have a foundational level of competency in the area of substance use and addiction care.
UBC Health conducted an environmental scan to: 1) identify existing substance use and addiction content across programs on both UBC campuses, inclusive of both classroom and clinical placement experiences; and 2) help start to identify opportunities to enhance substance use and addiction education and training across disciplines.
The symposium brought together faculty and partners involved in substance use and addiction education across both campuses to discuss this pressing health topic and identify opportunities to enhance existing offerings both uni-disciplinarily and collaboratively.
The event is part of UBC Health’s Collaborative Health Education Symposia, which facilitate knowledge exchange and synergies, mobilize and coordinate partners, and create an impetus for internal collaboration in an effort to activate and channel the health assets of the university towards collective aims.
